This course introduces early years practitioners to the new assessment arrangements for babies and young children aged 0–3, aligned with the Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care (ECPLC) framework. Assessment in the early years is a vital tool for understanding each child’s unique developmental journey and for supporting their well-being, sense of belonging, and progression. The course focuses on four key areas of development: social and emotional, physical, communication and language, and exploration and play. These areas are drawn from the ECPLC Developmental Pathways and provide a consistent foundation for future learning and assessment. Through practical strategies and reflective practice, participants will learn how to observe, assess, and respond to children’s needs in a meaningful and developmentally appropriate way.
