Neurodivergence in the Early Years and Social Communication

This course has two modules and both need to be completed

Part 1: Neurodivergence in the Early Years and Social Communication Differences

This course will provide you with information above neurodivergence in the early years and in particular ADHD. We will compare and contrast the similarities between ADHD and Social Communication Differences/ASD.  You will improve your understanding of social communication differences and Autism, and the different types of presentation associated with this spectrum.  The course will also cover information about typical social communication differences/Autism, anxiety and higher functioning autism and demand avoidant behaviour profile.

Outcomes

The participants will:

  • Have a better understanding of neurodivergence in the early years.
  • Have a better understanding of the similarities between ADHD and Social Communication Differences/ADHD.
  • Have a better understanding of the different types of presentation associated with the Autistic Spectrum:
    • Typical social communication differences/Autism
    • Anxiety and higher functioning Autism
    • Demand Avoidant Behaviour profile

Part 2: Understanding and analysing social communication differences and ASD behaviours – supporting change

This course will provide you with information about understanding and analysing social communication differences to support change and help you to understand the message behind behaviour. To discuss the use of generic behaviour strategies in the management of social communication differences/ASD behaviours. It will give you an insight into understanding and using ABC charts to work out the function and triggers of behaviour. The course will introduce you to using a functional assessment of behaviour and creating a Behaviour Intervention Plan. You will cover information on flight, fight, freeze mode and understand how this can affect those with social communication differences. Suggesting strategies to manage social communication/ASD behaviour and be provided with information on using a low arousal approach.

Outcomes

  • You will be able to use ABC charts to understand the message behind behaviour and how to use ABC charts to work out the functions and the triggers of social communication differences/ASD behaviours.
  • You will be able to create a Behaviour Intervention Plan to support behavioural change.
  • You will have a better understanding of how the fight, flight, freeze mode affects those with social communication/ASD behaviours.
  • You will be able to use strategies to manage social communication/ASD behaviour and know how to use a low arousal approach.
