Becoming an Enabling Adult

Course Description

This engaging and practical course is designed to deepen your understanding of what it means to be an Enabling Adult within your early years provision. Grounded in the ethos of Notice, Analyse, Respond, the course will guide you in recognising and responding to children’s schematic behaviours—those repeated patterns of action that reveal how children learn and make sense of the world. Through real-life examples, reflective activities, and planning strategies, you’ll learn how to create meaningful experiences that support every child’s unique developmental journey.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define the role of an Enabling Adult and explain how it supports holistic child development.
  • Apply the Notice, Analyse, Respond approach to observe and interpret children’s behaviours, identifying schemas that inform planning.
  • Understand the significance of schematic behaviours in early years learning and development.
  • Design and implement meaningful experiences that nurture schematic development and curiosity.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate resources to enhance your provision and support children’s learning through play.
