Play based interventions

Play based interventions

Play is essential for a child’s development and an important part of the learning process. Play-based interventions are designed to improve socio-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development of the child through guided interactive play.

Join in and Play

Join In And Play (JIAP) is a specific play intervention provided by the Early Years team in Caerphilly.

It is aimed at:

  • children between 12 months and 3 years of age
  • who have or may have additional learning needs, OR
  • are behind in two or more stages of their development

The sessions involve a JIAP worker supporting the family and child through play-based activities specifically tailored to meet the needs of the child. They provide play techniques and advice that they can use at home to further promote their child’s development.

This session includes a ‘What Matters’ conversation with the family to find out what is important to them and any issues they may be having so that the right support can be offered.

Sessions can be delivered face to face, by telephone or video call.

How to get support

Requests for support need to be made to the Early Years team, either online or by telephone.

Visit our Requesting early years support webpage for details.

A support worker will then contact you to discuss your concerns so that the most appropriate support can be offered.
