Understanding Behaviour as a Form of Communication

Course Description

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the underlying motives and influences behind children’s behaviour, using the principles of the THRIVE Approach. You will gain insight into how culture, emotions, and brain development shape behaviour, and how preventative strategies can be used to support positive change. Through reflective practice and practical tools, this course empowers practitioners to respond to behaviour with empathy, understanding, and effectiveness.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the motives and causes behind behaviour, including unmet needs and developmental stages.
  • Explore the role of culture and environment in shaping behavioural responses and expectations.
  • Understand how emotions influence behaviour, and how to support emotional regulation in children.
  • Explain how the brain develops and functions in relation to behavioural patterns and responses.
  • Apply the THRIVE Approach and preventative strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
