Support from the SRB Outreach Service is available for children attending a school-based nursery, from the September after their third birthday.
If school staff feel that a child is experiencing difficulties with speech and language, they should discuss this with the parents/guardians of the child and can request an evaluation from the Special Resource Base (SRB) Outreach Service.
A Specialist Teacher or Communication Worker will visit the school to observe the child and gather information.
If appropriate, a team member will work with the child to provide advice and activities to help develop the child’s speech, language, and communication skills.
The SRB Outreach Service works closely with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s Speech and Language Therapy service.
Schools can request an assessment twice in the academic year. Each request is discussed at a panel meeting to determine the most appropriate support for the child.
